The Italian post-black/post-hardcore/avant garde artist LUCYNINE has revealed that his new album, entitled Melena, will be released on October 3rd via Talheim Records Germany.
Unlike the 2020 album Amor Venenat, a very heterogeneous concept resulting from a couple of years of work, Melena was born in a few months, very spontaneously, as the result of an almost physiological necessity. The album was born in a period of acute personal malaise, as an intimate and brutal expression of this desperation.
Melena is anticipated by the song Narciso Non Muore, available as a single on the main digital streaming platforms as well as video on the label’s YouTube channel.

melèna noun Medicine/Medical [from greek μέλαινα, μέλας «black» (tacit νόσος «illness»)]. – In Medical language, the discharge of black, tarry, bloody stools, usually resulting from a hemorrhage in the alimentary tract.
Blood and shit.
The visceral need to communicate his personal unease involved not only the composition and writing of the lyrics (first time completely in Italian), but also the stylistic choices in the production: the sound is claustrophobic, the vocal line is kept very underneath, as if it was suffocated by the wall of sound that subjugates it, the immoderate use of the compressors dries all the possible air out. In the fifth track “Opera al Nero”, an intricate 15 minute song, all of this described above is exacerbated to the limit and beyond. It is a record born from suffering to make you suffer as well.
The cover represents complete hopelessness, the death of one of the most common symbols of freedom and joy - a magpie. Bird that, in addition to being rigidly monogamous (the sentimental element linked to depression recurs in the lyrics), in Nordic mythologies is considered messenger of the gods and bird of the goddess of death. In the British Isles it is seen as a harbinger of bad news and a harbinger of mourning. In Scandinavia the magpie is associated with witchcraft.
