While listening to the album, you will surely recognize the song “Broaderscope” as one of the highlights, thanks to its dark and melancholic vein. The band stated about this track:
“Broader Scope" encompasses lyrical themes related to the death of family members and friends that you didn't get to spend as much time with as you thought you would. Whether it be grandparents, distant relatives, or even people your own age. The chorus is an honest and vulnerable declaration that speaks on thoughts that many of us have to silently carry around - the fear of death and not knowing when it's coming for us. It briefly touches on being told about family members that passed away before you were even alive to spend time with them, as well as other family members that you might have not seen in years and wanted to spend time with in the future, only to find that they passed away suddenly before the chance was had. The consistent themes brought up are the regrets of missing out on time spent with said loved ones, as well as the lingering fear of what our own individual "legacies" will be. It's a very touchy subject for many, but we feel very strongly about speaking on it.”
“Romanticize” is the debut full-length studio album by HEIRLOOM. The album has been in the works for nearly 2 years. In late 2021, the band began working on ideas for an album with the producers Howard Benson and Neil Sanderson. In May of 2022, they recorded 5 songs at Benson's acclaimed West Valley Recording Studios engineered by Mike Plotnikoff and Brandt Sier, then later returned to the studio in March 2023 to finish another 5 songs for a 10 song full length album. Pre-production and demo structuring were worked on by Andrew Simmons, Travis Dark, Scotty Seigel, Jonathan Young, & Lindi Ortega.
“Romanticize” is about bipolar disorder (suffered by the vocalist Nolan Kenneth Smith), the darker aspects of PTSD and how difficult it can be to move on from past traumas that try to keep you mentally paralyzed from being content with your current life.
There’s definitely a lot of Smith’s life in the lyrics, like the need of escaping from your town to discover the world, a car crash he was involved in, or fighting the demons to remove resentment and anger from your life, but those are things that everyone can potentially relate to.
The album was produced by Howard Benson and Neil Sanderson. Mixing Engineer: Joe Rickard. Engineered by Mike Plotnikoff, Hatsukazu Inagaki. Assistant Engineer: Brandt Sier. Edited by Paul DeCarli. Mastering Engineer: Niels Nielsen.
