“Sons of Thunder” is a split release bringing together two Norwegian extreme metal entities across generations – uniting legacy material and modern production in a single, powerful statement.

The work combines the dark, ritualistic intensity of DEATHSEEKER with the raw and authentic sound of TYR, whose material originates from recordings made within the Norwegian underground scene in the late 1990s. The TYR tracks have been carefully restored and remastered to meet contemporary sonic standards while preserving their original atmosphere and character.

DEATHSEEKER contributes with material recorded in 2015, presenting a dense, atmospheric, and cinematic approach to extreme metal – combining crushing heaviness, ruthless riffs, and strong dynamic depth.

All material has been sonically refined at Kællen Studio in Fredrikstad, Norway and remastered at Empty Hall Studio in Madrid, Spain, resulting in a cohesive listening experience despite the recordings spanning different eras. The album was produced by Kris Zorn and Ketil “Kællen” Johansen.

Johansen is a genuine cult figure in the Norwegian metal underground. Long before black metal erupted onto the global stage, he was already forging the raw, morbid, and unmistakably “Norwegian necro” sound from his studio in Fredrikstad. As the producer behind Cadaver’s legendary debut Hallucinating Anxiety, recorded at Kællen Studio in the winter of 1989/1990, Johansen stands as one of the earliest and most credible architects of the sonic and visual aesthetic that would later become notorious around the world. Likewise, Abhorrent’s Occultus Brujeria demo, recorded at Kællen’s studio in April-May 1990, remains one of the earliest sonic artifacts from the violent borderlands where Norwegian death metal began morphing into black metal.

“Sons of Thunder” stands as a bridge between past and present – a testament to continuity, dedication, and the enduring spirit of the Norwegian underground metal tradition, with a special nod to the Sarpsborg scene, an important local stronghold during the formative years of Norway’s underground movement.

The album also features a bonus track, “Ondskapen som rår” by Leif Dødens Band, the standout song and music video from the Norwegian hit TV series Kids in Crime. The music video for the song, featured in Episode 7 of the show’s first season, was directed by Zorn and Chris Erik Kristoffersen many years ago. The video also features Zorn in the role of the gas-masked bass player.

For collectors and fanatical fans of Norwegian extreme metal, “Sons of Thunder” represents a rare and essential release, a must-own item with all the makings of a future classic for connoisseurs of the genre.

Conceptually, “Sons of Thunder” is about the eroticism of apocalypse: holy war, sacred violence, and mankind’s persistent urge to demonize its enemies. Beneath its blood-red iconography lies an eschatological vision shaped in part by the French writer, theorist of violence, and religious thinker René Girard. With an almost prophetic vision of modernity, Girard presents a world of mirrored hatreds, political paralysis, and history drifting toward a self-inflicted Armageddon. Yet war is not only destruction; it is also acceleration. It drives invention, sharpens ambition, and compels new technologies into being.

In our age, the struggle for supremacy is increasingly bound up with artificial intelligence and the weapons systems that will emerge around it. The deeper question is whether mankind, in seeking ultimate power, is creating a new god – or rather unleashing a new and all-powerful demon.

Like a dark contagion, the album was released across all major digital streaming platforms on March 20, 2026, as war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran escalated and the world once again found itself staring into the abyss – haunted by fears of global war and nuclear holocaust.

Vinyl and CD editions will follow later in 2026 via the German label Darker Than Black Records.
