DRLCT is the solo project of the Swiss musician Fantin Reichler (The Kompressor Experiment, Méandre). His debut effort “Médée” is inspired and dedicated to Fantin’s mother, who died of cancer in 2022.
The album starts with the dark, cascading guitars of “Asunder”, a beautifully played and terrifyingly emotional fall into heartache. “Un Jour En Octobre” (One Day In October) is a darker post rock sound, bringing a tortured feeling to the mix; it was inspired by the news of the illness’s aggression. “Flow Your Tears, That Bluebird Said” is a ballad representing the acceptance of what is coming and a yearning for the end of a very long, painful fight. Finally, “Interlinked” takes us through her last advances to embrace the inevitable. The ending of this song is quite emotional. It’s truly a beautiful musical treasure that recognizes and undertakes the more somber side of the human journey.
The album is a lamp post in the dark. A deep dive into grief, sadness and disbelief. Catharsis in the form of soaring, cycling and hypnotic melodies drenched in reverb. An invitation to lose oneself in a cinematic tapestry, where emotions are raw, unfiltered, and achingly real.
