Progressive extreme metallers AT FIRST LIGHT - including members of ALL SHALL PERISH, JINJER, NILE and RAGE OF LIGHT - are proud to announce that their debut full-length “Subaltern Obsequy” will be released on December 12th.

The debut work is anticipated by the song “Still Life,” available as a digital single on the main streaming services as well as a music video on YouTube.

“Subaltern Obsequy” was written over the course of 6 strenuous and formative years, both individually and collectively. The album is a result of total collaboration amongst the band members, each with their own unique interests and influences, but firmly rooted in a lifelong devotion to extreme metal.

Musically, “Subaltern Obsequy” represents what we believe to be the true essence of extreme metal - no boundaries. Total artistic freedom, without any labels, rules, or expectations. The only requisite being whether it connects with the band personally on an emotional level.

Conceptually, the album is an exploration of “The Great Filter” theory - that mankind’s genius and capability for destruction will outpace its ability to unite and collaborate. This is told through a collection of historical horror stories taking place before and during World War 2, where unseen conductors known as the Entities guide the conflict to steer humanity on a path to ruin. The band inhabits the characters of these Entities, led by a powerful and ancient deity known as Mother War.

AT FIRST LIGHT hopes this album will connect emotionally with its listeners, and that the lyrics and stories they tell will be a mirror for humanity to look at its destructive nature before it reaches The Great Filter.

AT FIRST LIGHT is a sonic journey into the abyss of the human condition. Existing in the space between dark and light, they have created an aural mirror of fleeting beauty and haunting reality. Boundless, fearless, and deeply emotional, AT FIRST LIGHT walks the shadow-line of modern extreme music.
