MYLINGEN was founded in 2022 by Swedish multi-instrumentalist Viktor Jonas (born 1984), rising from the ashes of his previous Doom/Death Metal band Apathy Noir, which he disbanded after roughly 16 years. The idea behind MYLINGEN was to take the foundation laid by Apathy Noir and expand it with new musical and lyrical ideas - a freer form where the music could draw inspiration from a wide range of genres and styles.
Viktor released a digital-only EP in January 2023 to test the waters. While pleased with the result, he felt that something was missing - both in the vocal department and in the overall presentation and thematic direction. During the writing process for the next release, Viktor decided that all songs would feature Swedish lyrics and titles, incorporating stronger elements of Scandinavian folklore in both music and lyrics.
For this new direction, a vocalist was needed who better suited the music and themes. Viktor found a collaborator in fellow Swede Eric Holmberg, vocalist of the Heavy Metal band Shiverpush. Their work on vocal arrangements and lyrics developed naturally, and Mylingen’s first full-length album “Under en svart himmel” was released on June 21, 2024.
Having found its form, Mylingen released the digital single “Månens Kraft” on October 4 the same year. The song served as a precursor to the band’s next release, the EP “Svartsyn,” released on March 7, 2025, which also featured a reworked version of the track.
“Svartsyn” showcased a more cohesive sound than the debut album and marked a shift toward a more melodic black/death metal style, while also incorporating a greater focus on acoustic guitar elements.
With a desire to keep MYLINGEN evolving and avoid stagnation in its expression, work on a follow-up to “Under en svart himmel” began shortly after the release of “Svartsyn”, but with a markedly different mindset than before. Instead of building on existing material or refining an established formula, the writing process was approached more deliberately, aiming for a more progressive sound that blends elements of space rock and progressive rock with the style Mylingen had already established.
This shift is also reflected in the artwork, which is based on Hieronymus Bosch’s triptych “The Garden of Earthly Delights,” reinforcing the album's themes of contrast, ambiguity, and layered meaning.
The album was released digitally on July 3rd 2026 and vinyl and cd versions followed on July 16th on elasticStage.
